Kirli Saunders OAM is a proud Gunai Woman and award-winning multidisciplinary artist and an experienced advocate for the environment and equality, Kirli was the NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year (2020).
In 2022, she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her contribution to the arts, particularly literature. Kirli’s books have been celebrated by the Prime Minister’s, QLD, WA, SA and Victorian Premier’s Literary awards, and her writing features in magazines, journals and in public artworks; and her first solo play Going Home, commissioned by Playwriting Australia, will be staged in 2023.
Her works as a visual artist have been exhibited at Shoalhaven Regional, Wollongong Regional, Red Earth Arts Precinct Galleries and Bundanon Site Works.
She brings her significant experience in cultural liaison to the Create NSW Aboriginal Arts and Culture Protocols working group and the board and First Nations Advisory Group for Merrigong Theatre.
